Taking the good with the bad.

Came across some really nice C111 photos on ISO50 via carstyling.ru. This is one of those cars that looks so right in some views and sooooooo wrong in others.

MEILENWERK

For some reason I found myself thinking of Meilenwerk in Berlin today. I guess I’m having some kind of exotic car withdraw here in Montreal right now.
When I was at VW and we had a quiet afternoon or the team was feeling demoralized we’d pile into a Caddy and take a field trip to this auto enthusiasts heaven. It’s a beautifully executed storage facility housed in an old tram garage. The center is like a fantasy classic car dealership which is surrounded by these 2 story glass storage units, and then the perimeter of the building is made up of several small garage/bodyshops dedicated to various marques. The cars are really diverse and always coming and going so the place has a real buzz that’s rarely found at indoor collections. They have facilities in Düsseldorf and Stuttgart now, but I’m kind of surprised this sort of thing isn’t way more common all over the world. So next time your in Berlin put it on your to do list!

GOOD 015: THE TRANSPORTATION ISSUE

1238005083-015transpo-cover-thumb

Good’s title does it’s self a gigantic disservice. This magazine should be called Outstanding, Excellent, or Super Fantastic Magazine Totally Worth Reading. Pretty much every issue of Good I’ve seen is worth a cover to cover read. The articles are well informed and relevant, the design is top notch, and it’s super cheap! I’d been meaning to pick up this issue for a couple months and finally snagged it on my most recent trip to LA. The entire issue is dedicated to transportation and I’d consider it a must read for anyone who’s interested in the way people get from A to B. It’s got articles on the future of: the automobile, public transportation, personal mobility, city planning, and technology. It’ll be at a newsstand near you until July so don’t snooze!

On Any Sunday

I bought this for my Dad a few years ago, and just re-watched it last night. It’s a Bruce Brown (Endless Summer) documentary about motorcycle culture in the 60s. Super nice 16mm photography, well edited, great music, some really great characters including Steve McQueen, and awesome positive vibes. I’d say it’s a must see.

Here’s the trailer.

Here’s the films sublime ending, I’m not going to sound the spoiler alert, but it is a great ending to a great film. For the So Cal folks, thats the Camp Pendleton coast line they’re riding.

BIKE EXIF

hagon_jawa

So, I’m very sorry for the recent lull in blog posts. We’re very busy working on lots of Curb and Non-Curb related stuff. We’ve got a bunch of new shirts about to go into production, H-Point is flying off the shelves and receiving some flattering press, and I’m getting started on a couple other blog related initiatives.

Since I’m struggling to keep our blog updated I thought I’d recommend a blog that delivers the goods on a daily basis. Bike EXIF is a great blog which looks at classic motorcycles, custom motorcycles, and cafe racers. It updates daily, the images are always really nice quality, and there’s always some interesting information about the bikes.

Pagani Zonda R

Jalopnik just posted an amazing set of 45 photos for the Pagani Zonda R which will be on display at the Geneva autoshow starting next week. The photos are primarily focused on details which showcase it’s amazing craftsmanship. Great bit of inspiration/reference for designers, modelers, and engineers alike!

MISSION ONE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE UNVEILED

Mission Motors unveiled their impressive all electric sport bike today at TED2009. It’s an impressive entry into an almost non-existent segment, making pretty much all of it’s competition look like the work of your local neighborhood eccentric. The Mission One boasts a top speed of 150 mph with a single speed transmission, and more importantly maintains a constant 100ft/lbs of torque. It’s got a range of 150 miles and takes under 2hrs for a full charge at 240V. It’s also got some cool techie features like the ability to download loads of information about the bike and your riding ability to your pc for analysis/bragging rights.

I’m very curious about the way they’ve laid out the package on this one, based on the heat coming off my lithium-ion powered lap top I’m guessing the the batteries aren’t in the traditional tank location.
